Is there any article of clothing more representative of the golden era of sports than the baseball cardigan? I think not. Which is why since introducing sports apparel to our photography gallery nearly two years ago I have been waiting and searching for the baseball cardigan. I have scoured hundreds of websites and sports apparel manufacturers looking for the perfect (and affordable) baseball cardigan – and now it’s finally here. Mitchell & Ness – the sports apparel supplier for all that is fashionable in sports apparel has finally brought back the vintage baseball cardigan – just in time for spring!
I stumbled across this blog a few months back that talked about the baseball sweater – noting that Mitchell and Ness (back when they were smaller) had done a a series of reproductions of authentic baseball sweaters – which they were selling for $700 a piece… Not exactly a price point that could fly in these trying economic times… But now these new sweaters (while not exact reproductions, but rather vintage-inspired pieces) are being made by M&N for about $100 CDN – and I couldn’t be more excited!
While we only have a limited supply in the MLB styles – and only in the Red Sox and Phillies – we do have some great NHL cardigans for the Blackhawks, Red Wings, and Bruins!
Just to step back in time for a second… Here’s one of our Limited Edition Prints called “Bruins Den” which was shot in the 1950-51 season, and features the future Hall-of-Famers Lynn Patrick and Milt Schmidt – just compare the Bruins cardigan and longsleeve in the photograph to the two new Mitchell & Ness styles… I’d say M&N has got the vintage-inspired thing down pat.
